If you’re new to vaping you probably have a number of questions that need answering. To help you get started, here is a simple guide that will answer all the newbie questions you may be too embarrassed to ask others.

What Is Vaping?

Vaping is a healthier, less toxic alternative to smoking cigarettes. Vapers use a liquid (e-liquid) which replaces tobacco and is often mixed with food-grade flavoring for a unique experience. The liquid is vaporized through an atomizer to create a smoking-like experience. As you’re inhaling and exhaling vapor, much like you would the smoke from a regular cigarette, the experience is called vaping.

What Are E-Cigarettes?

E-cigarette or electronic cigarettes (or e-shisha) are battery-powered vaporizers used by vapers to simulate the experience of smoking. In general, an e-cigarette will be made up an atomizer – which is the heating element that vaporizes the e-liquid to create your smoking experience. They come in different sizes and are able to vaporize liquids of different flavors.

The overall e-cigarette is made of a device, the tank, a coil, and a battery.  These come in all shapes and sizes and are suitable for various levels from beginners to experts.  Some are fully integrated (all in one) and others need very little assembly. There is nothing complicated so long as you have the correct coils for the tank being used. Further, using a device that is suitable for you as a beginner.

Do E-Cigarettes Have Nicotine?

Yes and No as a choice. Nicotine levels are less concentrated in eliquid as there are no chemical agents added like in a traditional cigarette. Further, eliquids come in a choice of nicotine levels ranging from 0 to 12MG and higher. E-liquids used in e-cigarettes are usually made up of nicotine (or not) and flavorings and a few other additives such as flavor enhancers. The amount of nicotine in an e-cig depends on your needs. Some electronic cigarettes contain the same amount of nicotine as a regular cigarette while others are much less and can be compared to an ultra-light cigarette.

Typically, vapers who stop smoking will start with a higher level of nicotine and work their way downwards. However, many find starting with 3MG would suffice but the choice is entirely personal.

What Is E-Liquid?

So what is the liquid that is being atomized by your electronic cigarette? E-liquid or e-juice is what ultimately becomes the vapor you inhale and exhale. It’s usually made up of:

·         Vegetable glycerin (VG)

·         Propylene glycol (PG)

·         Nicotine

·         Flavoring

Generally, the higher the VG content vs PG (eg 70%/30%) - the greater the vapor production and thicker the juice. Vs, a higher PG content would deliver a deeper throat "hit" or sensation.  Liquids come in various blends, so its best to test and find the blend that works best for you.

A good quality liquid will contain no other additives. You should always ensure your liquids (incl. devices) are purchased from a reputable supplier.  That they contain USP/Food-gra material and that they are stored in room temperature.

NEVER expose liquids to extreme heat or direct sunlight as this will damage them.  After all, they are composed of food grade substances.  Refrigeration is optional.

Is Vaping Safe?

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions. If you quit smoking entirely, that would definitely be your safest and healthiest option. But, when compared to smoking, vaping is widely considered to be the better option. While you’re still inhaling nicotine with electronic cigarettes, you are no longer adding harmful chemical substances to your lungs that can be found in tobacco.
